Burning Up (2022) is a tabletop board game I designed and manufactured at a Makerspace in Urbana, IL. In creating the rules, I set out to make Burning Up a conversation-focused game that allows friends, family, and strangers alike to learn more about each other. This aspect also inspired the name as players enter the “hot seat” during their turn and answer questions of varying intensities. To aid gameplay and add some mischief, I introduced pre-written questions and action cards that have various effects on the game. For the design, I decided on a cartoonish flat style, utilizing modified emojis to provide an overall playful tone.
